Content Description
Three linear feet (3 record cartons) of materials spanning the years 1878-1997 and documenting the business and personal interests of several generations of the Stump family, who moved their dry goods business from San Francisco, CA, to Springfield, MA in 1907. The collection includes business-related financial records, correspondence, personnel records, advertising and catalogs, inventory records, and miscellaneous printed ephemera. It also includes personal correspondence, family photographs, diaries and journals, and personal ephemera. The bulk of the collection concerns the business and family activities of Hiram (Mort) Stump, who moved the family business from California to Massachusetts following the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, and his son Montgomery. These records comprise approximately 75% of the collection and fall in the date range of 1912-1975.
