Biographical/Historical note
Wayward died in 1863. He practiced medicine in Western Massachusetts from 1831-1838 and then by 1845 became a gentleman farmer in New York's Hudson River valley. He demonstrated himself to be an ardent abolitionst in the ante-bellum period, and he participated in and funded activities of the Underground Railroad.
